Fantastic location, great facilities, wonderful staff

We have stayed at the Shawmont more than once over the years. It is our favorite hotel in Ocean Grove.

The hotel was bought by new owners in 2004, and they’ve really made the Shawmont a fantastic place. They’ve renovated the place, and the rooms are now very clean, up to date, and comfortable. My last stay was just this summer and my room was fantastic… the bed was super comfortable, I could set the room temp exactly how i wanted it, the bathroom was sparking and everything worked perfectly, and the room was decorated perfectly. I didn’t want to leave!

The location is incredible…it’s the closest to the beach you can possibly be; only steps away from the sand. The beach is huge. And the boardwalk is great; you can walk for literally miles if you want. Asbury Park is just a short walk away, and it has tons of food, shopping and bars. And then you can walk back to the peace and quiet of Ocean Grove. Perfect.

The staff is great. There’s a new manager, Anna, who is very smart, nice, and competent. She does a great job and takes care of any issues.

The Shawmont has a great mix of “old word charm” and updated facilities. It’s not a stale high rise with big elevators and such, and that would be very out of place at Ocean Grove. If you’re looking for something that matches the character of Ocean Grove with up-to-date comfort and cleanliness, I recommend this hotel.

We’ll be staying here again!

A relaxing and pleasant experience

We stayed at the Shawmont Hotel for one night. It is a charming, clean and comfortable B&B. The proprietor and of the people who work there are nice, welcoming and helpful. You can’t beat an ocean front location. It is so nice to enjoy the view from their front porch while rocking in a rocking chair. The breakfast is delicious and generous.

There was: Fresh bagels with cream cheese and jam, chocolate drizzled muffins, watermelon, activia yogurt, orange juice and instant oatmeal available to make in their microwave. The kitchen has a refrigerator, ice machine, microwave oven, stove top, coffee, tea, juices and water available. The room was clean and comfortable. Daily beach passes are available at the front desk for $5.00 per adult. I recommend this place.

Great Experience!

My sister and I stayed at the Shawmont this weekend past and loved it. Location was unbeatable, our room was very clean and comfortable and had a terrace facing the ocean – we read and had breakfast there and it was heavenly! We also enjoyed reading in the rockers on the porch. Lisa and Sue at the front desk were very nice. All told, a wonderful experience!

Wonderful family run hotel…feel the love!

Okay we’ll run you through all the reasons to stay here…friendly staff, very helpful, with Anna at the helm, wonderful front desk, and the most wonderful cleaning woman…fabulous beach right across from the hotel and free street parking…great breakfast with fruit and bagels (we loved the cinnamon bagels, and the ladies searched through the bag for one for us)…comfy room with balcony, and a lovely view (spend a little extra, it’s worth it)…great front porch with rockers. We went out to eat in Asbury Park, and got talking to the nicest couple next to us. They asked us where we were staying, and we said “the Shawmont Hotel”, and they said, “That’s our hotel”. What a laugh! Book here, you’ll love it.

always a delight
We have stayed here for many years. The staff is wonderful, and helps us to feel right at home. The location (across Ocean Ave from the ocean itself) is spectacular. Nearby to plenty of amenities. Fellow travelers become familiar in this warm and friendly B & B. Very near to the Great Auditorium, a highlight of Ocean Grove community.
